Carlos Daniel Teran Aguilar
Eighteen-year-old Carlos Daniel Terán Aguilar was arrested on January 26, 2025 by ICE agents who did not provide a warrant. He had just gotten his first American bike at Goodwill.
Carlos and his family were all in the US legally. He survived the dangerous trek through the Darien Gap, between Colombia and Panama, and made it to Mexico. From there, he and his family all used the CPB One App to present themselves at a port of entry and request asylum. They are legally allowed to remain in the US while they await their immigration hearing. That was only in November 2024, and the hearing was not yet scheduled.
ICE claimed that Carlos was involved in narcotics and weapons trafficking but his father stated that he got in some trouble in Chile smoking marijuana and one of his group had a gun. He was 16 at the time. ICE has not provided any evidence to support their claim that Carlos was involved in narcotics or weapons trafficking. Carlos is 5’5” and 125 pounds. He was unarmed, yet he was handcuffed and surrounded by ten agents. His mother reported that he was too scared to come out of his room at first but eventually went outside to talk to the agents. They took him away in a van and the family could not reach him after March 15, 2025. His name then appeared on a list of Venezuelans sent to CECOT. Before he was kidnapped and disappeared, he enjoyed playing soccer and had a girlfriend.
