Yornel Santiago Benevides Rivas
Yornel Santiago Benavides Rivas came to the US from Venezuela looking for economic improvement. He is now confirmed to be in CECOT.
Coming to the US
According to the Venezuelan new organization, Diario VEA, Yornel left Venezuela about 18 months ago looking for the so called “American dream.” While living in Venezuela, he worked in the constitution sector. He has two daughters. There is very little confirmed information about when he arrived and where he was in the process of seeking asylum as a Venezuelan.
Detainment and Expulsion
On February 8, Yornel was detained in North Carolina with a group of men who were making a music video.
According to his mother, Ivonne, the last time she spoke to Yornel was on March 15. He called her to say he was being deported to Venezuela the next day. She went to Maiquetia in Venezuela to see if he had arrived, but found out he was not there. Yornel’s name was later on the list of men who had been expelled to CECOT.
Working on getting Yarnel Released from CECOT
Ivonne is one of the mothers who is part of the Committee of Relatives of the Victims constituted by the Head of State, Nicolas Maduro. A group of Venezuelan and El Salvadoran lawyers are working in the defense of the kidnapped men. She, and other relatives of the victims continue to be on the streets of Venezuela asking for freedom for their children.
