Euder Jose Torres
Euder Jose Torres Herrera came to the US in 2024. He is now confirmed to be in CECOT.
Coming to the US
Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, Euder’s partner of 17 years, Eira, first left Venezuela with her oldest son in 2020 and emigrated to Ecuador. In 2021, Euder and his youngest son joined them in the Province of Ambato near Quito.
In 2022, the oldest son made his journey to the US. On May 10, 2023 Eira arrived in the US and received Temporary Protected Status (TPS). In June 2024 Euder and his youngest son were selected by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for resettlement and reunification with his family in the US. He completed all the formalities, including medical and criminal background checks. He and his son entered the US on September 10, 2024 through the human mobility program.
Detainment and Expulsion
Upon arrival in the US, Euder’s son was detained at immigration because of his tattoos. He was separated from Eudor without explanation and deported back to Ecuador. Euder did not have an Ecuadoran visa and so was arrested and detained. An attorney suggested that Eudor would need a sponsor to be released. Despite finding a sponsor, his attorney was unsuccessful in securing Eudor’s release.
Although his attorney recommended Euder apply for deportation, but he refused and opted to apply for asylum. On January 7, Euder presented his case for asylum to an immigration judge. On January 17, he was notified that his asylum claim was denied due to his membership in Tren de Aragua. According to his partner, Euder was given no opportunity to defend himself. He was transferred to a detention center in Rio Grande.
On March 15, Eira spoke to Euder for the last time when he told her an ICE agent suggested he might be deported to Mexico, as the process to Venezuela was taking too long. When Eira tried to contact him later, she got no information. Then it was confirmed he had been deported, but were unable to inform Eira of Euder’s whereabouts. On March 20, Eira found Euder’s name on the list of men who had been expelled to CECOT.
