Frengel Reyes Mota

Frengel Reyes Mota came to the US in 2023 with his wife. He is now in CECOT in El Salvador.

Coming to the US

Frengel Reyes Mota lived in a poverty stricken city in Venezuela who wanted stability and peace for his family when he crossed into the US in 2023. He applied for asylum and had an immigration hearing scheduled for March 24. At that hearing in western Miami-Dade County Mark Prada, Frengel’s atorney, told the judge, “He’s in a torture prison in El Salvador.” Frengel has no criminal record in Venezuela.

Detainment and Deportation

On February 4, Frengel went to his required check in at the Tampa Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office. There agents informed him he was being detained under suspicion he was a member of Tren de Aragua. The immigration records of Frengel Reyes Mota are riddled with mistakes. The government admits in those documents that he has no criminal records in the US. The government’s I-213 form also uses someone else’s last name in several parts of the document. They identify him with female pronouns. They use two different unique identification numbers. He does not have any tattoos and his family members deny gang ties. All of these details raise questions about the reliability of the accusations against him.

Frengel’s family

Liyanara Sanchez, Frengel’s wife, describes him as a reserved man, a loving husband, and a dedicated father who painted houses for a living. Frengel chose to build a life with Sanchez and her young son, and embraced the boy as his own according to family members. His 9 year od son has said, “I need help for my father. My father is very nice with me. My father is not bad people. My father is very, very god people.

From detention, Frengel adked about his loved ones, whether they were eating enough, and how his son was doing in school. They lost contact with him on March 14, the day before he was on a deportation flight to El Salvador. A week later his name appeared on he list of men being detained in CECOT.
