Angelo Escalona Sevilla was 18, entered legally as an asylum seeker, had a social security work permit, and an upcoming immigration court hearing on March 23 for his pending asylum application
Arrest and Detention
On February 8, Angelo was making a music video with his friends, including the singer Artura Suarez-Trejo who has also been deported to El Salvador, at a home in North Carolina when ICE showed up and arrested him with 7 other men.
On March 15, his mother received a call from Angelo that he was accused of being a member of Tran de Aragua and being deported to Venezuela. After that, nothing more has been heard from him.
Discovered in CECOT
On March 17, one of the men his mother knew to be Angelo’s friend arrested with him on February 8 was identified in the photos from CECOT. On March 20, that was confirmed when his name appeared on a list of deportees to El Salvador.
While the administration is saying Angelo is a criminal and member of TdA gang, he has no tattoos and no criminal charges or convictions.
